The Trouble with Travel Blogs

Travel is romanticized. Going back to the days of travel agents and continuing today with Instagram, exotic places are always presented in the best light to capture our attention and tease our imagination.

Travel becomes a dream that we devote a lot of energy and resources towards. We plan logistics, read guide books, and save diligently to visit the places on our bucket list. But what happens when we finally get there? What happens when the dream meets reality?

Every single time, the destination does not match the brochure. The purpose of this blog is to prepare you for this. Some places are far better than they are ever given credit for, and are delightful hidden gems that you remember forever.  Other places are more challenging than they looked from afar. Nothing is more heartbreaking than seeing the surprised look on the faces of an older couple when they step out of a train station to realize that the destination they talked about for decades doesn’t align with what they built up in their heads.

Too many travel blogs focus on the pretty, the fun, the Instagram-worthy. But that skews our perception and really is not helpful for the traveler that is coming behind you. Sincere, honest information is what everyone needs to plan the best trip possible. The internet is full of people showing you panorama views from the top of an ancient castle. Too few people tell you that the stairwell is near impossible for those with mobility issues or claustrophobia.

We want to share the reality of traveling so that you are not caught off guard by something that could potentially sour your trip. We want you to thoroughly enjoy your trip and feel you got good value for your hard-earned money. There will be no photoshopping and sugar coating here, just honest impressions so that you can be an informed, happy traveler.
